Galactic War
Helldivers 2 is a 4-player co-op game allowing you and up to 3 other players to deploy planet-to-planet across the galaxy. Super Earth is at war with 3 different factions.
- The Terminids, AKA the bugs
- The Illuminate, AKA the squids
- The Automatons, AKA the bots.
Each faction is represented by a different color on the map. Bots are red, squids are purple, bugs are orange.
Difficulty
- Difficulty increases spawn rates, adds new enemy variants, and adds more objectives and operation modifiers.
- Unlike other games, Helldivers 2 does not increase enemy health or damage dealt with difficulty.
So, you’re not going to fight the exact same enemy on a higher difficulty with the only added challenge being “oh, now he’s a bullet sponge and can 1-shot me”. Nope, even on the lowest difficulty enemies can kill you in just 1-2 hits if you’re not careful, and on higher difficulties they will swarm and overrun your squad if you’re not managing ammo and stratagem use.
As difficulty increases, you’ll also get more rewards. Only difficulty 6 and above offer the chance at Super Rare Samples, which you’ll need to collect to unlock the game’s best ship upgrades.
