The Python Commandos Warbond is one of the most exciting Warbonds Arrowhead has released to date. It introduces a minigun support weapon, a chainsword-style support weapon, a flame-spewing Guard Dog, and a new assault rifle with an underbarrel grenade launcher. Alongside the Warbond, the Superstore also adds a new premium primary: the Double Freedom double-barrel shotgun.
After unlocking and testing every item, here’s a full breakdown of how each weapon performs and whether they’re worth your medals, or your Super Credits.
The One-Two – Assault Rifle + Underbarrel Grenade Launcher
The One-Two is a light-armor-pen assault rifle with slightly higher DPS than the Liberator. It has a 40-round magazine, and we believe it sits comfortably in the middle of the primary-weapon pack. Nothing incredible like the Coyote, but certainly a viable option.
Ammo & Handling
- 6 magazines baseline (8 with Siege Ready)
- Stable recoil and solid accuracy
- Works well for general-purpose loadouts
- Only 3 spare grenades
- Cannot be increased with Siege Ready
Underbarrel Grenade Launcher
The grenade launcher is accessed through its own firing mode, switched by holding reload and toggling down. It’s functional but awkward, far slower than swapping to a dedicated secondary like the Grenade Pistol or Ultimatum.
The Grenade Launcher has its uses, but opting for a stronger primary paired with a Grenade Pistol is a more effective combo than the One-Two. Relying only on the One-Two’s launcher means you won’t be able to take out Medium and Large nests without needing a resupply.
Verdict: A fun, gimmicky rifle with decent, mid-tier performance.
Flamethrower Guard Dog
The new Guard Dog variant fires long bursts of flame and is extremely strong against the Terminids and Illuminate, especially in choke points. It can wipe out full patrols almost by itself.
However, it’s also the most dangerous Guard Dog to its user:
- Fire spread can easily ignite the Helldiver
- Getting caught between the dog and your target often leads to self-ignition
- It sometimes ignores airborne enemies (Shriekers, Elevated Overseers, Watchers), which the AR Guard Dog excels at killing
If you run it, be ready to handle air units yourself and be mindful of its flames.
Verdict: Exceptional anti-chaff power, but high self-harm risk and poor anti-air.
Double Freedom – Superstore Exclusive Double-Barrel Shotgun
Locked behind a 400-credit Superstore purchase, the Double Freedom asks a big question: is it worth it?
Absolutely.
This double-barrel shotgun hits like a truck. With medium armor penetration and two firing modes, it’s effective against almost everything on the battlefield:
- Semi-Mode kills Alpha Commanders, Bile Spewers and Hive Guards in a single headshot.
- Volley-Mode can quickly kill Impalers and Chargers by aiming for their medium-pen weakspots.
Reload speed is moderate, so Siege Ready is recommended. The flashlight + laser upgrade offers an ergonomics boost, plus the bonus of having a laser sight when hip firing.
Verdict: A top-tier shotgun, and one of the strongest primaries in the game. Absolutely worth the credits.
Defoliator – “Chainsaw Sword” Support Weapon
The Defoliator is exactly what players wanted: a chainsword-style support weapon with heavy armor penetration. It’s fun, stylish, and surprisingly effective… to a point.
Strengths:
- Capable of killing heavy units
- Great for lower difficulties or themed loadouts
- Extremely high damage
- Heavy armor pen
Weaknesses:
- Extremely risky on Super Helldive
- Heavy units kill you in a single hit if you’re not cautious, so we recommend taking stun grenades in your loadout.
- Slow swing speed, so you can be overwhelmed by chaff
- Takes up a support weapon slot
Verdict: A great gimmick weapon, but not a competitive pick for the hardest content.
Maxigun – Helldivers 2’s Version of a Minigun
The most anticipated support weapon has to be the Maxigun, a high-capacity, medium-armor-pen mini-gun that requires a dedicated backpack to function. The weapon and backpack work as a single unit, unlike other support weapons. You can’t reload or drop the pack because the Maxigun is belt-fed.
Key stats:
- 750-round ammo capacity
- Medium armor penetration
- Deals 80 damage per shot, with a fire rate of 1500 RPM, it surpasses the DPS of both the Stalwart and the MG-43.
The Maxigun annihilates almost anything not heavily armored.
But there’s one major catch:
You absolutely need anti-tank stratagems in your loadout or on your team. Eagles, Recoilless, Spear, Quasar, anything. The Maxigun turns you into a stationary target when firing, and you won’t be able to kill most heavies alone.
Verdict: A top-tier anti-chaff support weapon on a slightly higher level than the MG-43, though this isn’t ideal for solo dives.
Armor Passive: Rock Solid
- Increases melee damage by 100%.
- Bearer is more resistant to being knocked prone.
An interesting armor passive, fun though certainly not top-tier. It does make using melee weapons a bit easier.
Final Verdict
The Python Commandos Warbond is a great choice, though it’s not one of our top core recommendations. It offers fun support weapons, a decent primary weapon, and one of the best guard dogs in the game. Still, there are other Warbonds worth picking up first if you haven’t already.
