Commons can be found in almost every mission type except for Evacuate High-Value Assets missions.
Commons are available at every difficulty level. They come in the form of: Research Cases, Corpse Worms, Small Machinery (Automatons), Alien Bulbs (Terminids). The maximum number of Commons in a mission ranges from 12 to 40.
A good tip for collecting commons is to run Solo missions on difficulty levels 3. Check out our Solo Sample Collecting Build!
Common Sample Research Cases are found on both Terminid and Automaton Missions and can come in various colors including orange (pictured), red, and blue. They can be found near Human Structures.
Corpse Worms are found in or near dead human bodies at grave sites.
Small Machinery can be found near Automaton structures like Fabricators and around Factories.
Alien Bulbs can be found near Terminid Structures such as Bug Holes and Spore Towers.
Rares are only found in missions with a difficulty of Challenging (4) and above. The maximum number of Rares in a mission ranges from 12 to 40. Rare Samples come in three variants: Metallic Crystals, Bismuth, and Alien Flowers. All variants are found on all mission types.
Metallic Crystal
Alien Flower
Bismuth
Super Samples are exclusively found in missions with an Extreme (6) difficulty level or higher. The maximum number of Super Rares in a mission typically ranges from 3 to 6 and are always found next to Super Sample Rocks. Check out the images below for a visual guide.
This is the Minimap with the Super Sample Rock circled in red. You will need to spend some time looking around the map to find a smallish, perfectly circular rock that has a hint of silver in the middle of it. Head here and you will be greeted by the elusive Super Samples.
This is what the Super Sample Rock looks like. At the base of the rock you will find Super Uranium.
Super Samples or “Super Uranium” are found on difficulty level 6 and above ranging from 3-6 samples per mission.
Sample Containers
When your Fellow Helldiver dies while holding samples, they will drop a Sample Container. If these containers are far out of the way, or near a large swath of enemies and they weren’t carrying too many samples, it may not be worth trying to get it back and potentially losing yours as well.
Other Sample Locations
These sample locations will have both Common and Rare Samples. Be sure to explore the surrounding areas of Bug Nests, Spore Towers, and Automaton Factories as the samples can be spread out in a nearby radius.
Open Vault near a Human Structure. These vaults can be a variety of different colors and can be opened with explosives such as grenades or explosive Support Weapons like the Autocannon or the Recoilless Rifle. Look around for Common/Rare Samples, Ammo, Stims, Grenades, and other valuable loot inside the safe!
Grave Sites only have Common Samples found in or near the Deceased Human bodies.
Ship Wrecks will sometimes have Common or Rare Samples in the trail of its crash.
Double Doors will normally have Samples strewn around outside. Make sure you communicate with your fellow Helldiver as it requires two to open it. Inside you will find other loot, like Super Credits and Requisition.
